Bondi is an Eastern Suburb of Sydney and part of the Waverly Council local government area. It is part of the Bondi area which was bought over by the editor of the Sydney Monitor, Edward Smith Hall from a road-builder named William Roberts for 200 pounds in 1809.
As Bondi was predominantly a residential area, the real draws to the suburb were its neighbours – Bondi Beach and the shopping district Bondi Junction. But there are some landmarks and other notable mentions like Scarba which is a 2 story house on Wellington Street built by Malcom Campbell in the 1880s. It was eventually turned into a welfare home known as Scarba House until it became part of the Bondi Centre. Scarba House is heritage listed as is Bondi Public School which was built in 1883.
In addition, the well-known Waverley Rugby Club is also located in Bondi.
