Bondi Junction is an Eastern Suburb of Sydney under the Waverly Municipal Council. It gets its name from its history when tram lines were extended to Bondi Beach and Charing Cross amongst other locals. When the Bondi and Bronte tram lines intersected is where Oxford Street and Bronte Road now intersect and hence it was apt to call this the Junction of Bondi.
After the Eastern Suburbs Railway was completed in the 1980s, the area reached its commercial peak but Bondi Junction has always been mostly focused in commercial activity. In 1854, the Waverley Tea Gardens was opened and was the first hotel here. Besides this historical building, the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club which the Sydney Roosters play for is also located here on Spring Street and was one of the first large-scale developments in Bondi Junction .
