Pittwater is the estuary of Broken Bay that lends its name to the local government area – the Pittwarer Council. It is part of the northern beaches region of Sydney.

It turn, it received its name from William Pitt the Younger, the then Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1788. Scotland Island is located within the estuary too. The estuary is also part of an annual Yacht race from The Pittwater to Coffs Harbour every January since 1981.

Jacqui Townsend, an independent politician and she is accompanied by 8 other Councillors, namely Sue Young, Ian White, Kylie Ferguson, Bob Grace, Alex McTaggart, Selena Griffith, Julie Hegarty and Kay Millar who govern 3 wards – the North, South and Central Wards
