The City of Botany Bay is a lovely coastal ciy a few kilometres south of the Sydney CBD and includes suburbs such as Eastlakes, Hillsdale, Mascot and of course its name sake Botany Bay itself. It gets its name from its history – Captain James Cook landed here when he sailed The Endeavour around Australia on 29 April 1770. 2 botanists on board – Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander disembarked and collected numerous botanic specimens when they landed. Their work has given its name to the City that is now called Botany Bay.
Mayor Councillor Ben Keneally was elected to office in 2012 and still serves today alongside his other councillors to build more green space and improve on community togetherness. He is currently working on Vision 2040 Project to further shape the city in the next 25 years.
