Located 23 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, Sefton is a suburb of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown local government area in the state of New South Wales, Australia and a part of the Western Sydney region.

The name of the area was given by James Wood in 1839 after he was granted the 340 acres in a subdivision. In the early years prior to subdivision, the area held market gardens, orchards and poultry farms. The name Sefton was taken from a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, England.

The suburb has a small shopping centre with stores grouped around the railway station.

For sport enthusiasts there are plenty of sporting facilities located around the area. Jensen Oval is a soccer park located on Clapha road, Birrong and is the home ground of the ‘Bankstown City Lions’. There is also Sefton Golf Course that caters to golf players all year round, it is an 18-hole par-3 course stretching over 15.6 hectares.
