Condell Park is located in the state of New South Wales, 22 kilometres south-west of the Sydney central business district. It is a suburb of local government area City of Canterbury-Bankstown and shares the same postcode with Bankstown and Bankstown Aerodrome.
The suburb got its name from Ousley Condell, a Brittish settler who in 1829 arrived with the vessel Swiftsure. He was an engineer and by applying for a position in the public service he was in 1830 granted 50-acre adjacent lots which he decided to call Condell Park.
Condell Park has a number of heritage-listed sites, including; ‘Air Defence Headquarters Ruin Sydney’ situated on the Corner of Edgar and Marion Streets, ‘Bankstown Bunker’ which can be found at the end of Taylor Street and ‘Shop and Residence’ which is located on 65 William Street.
Most of the shops in the area are located on a small section of Simmat Avenue and there is also smaller commercial area on the corner of Chapel and Canterbury Roads.
For sport and recreation, residents and visitors can enjoy ‘Kinch Reserve’ which is home ground to Condell Park Football Club, also worth a visit is ‘Bankstown Basketball Stadium’, the largest basketball stadium in Australia.
