Campsie is located11 kilometres inner south west of the Sydney central business district, a suburb in the state of New South Wales and one of the administrative centres of the City of Canterbury-Bankstown.
The land along the Cooks River was in 1770 explored by officers from HM Bark Endeavour and the area was given the name after Campsie, a civil parish in Stirlingshire, Scotland.
In the beginning of the settlement, the land in the area was foremost used for farming. After 1895 due to the completion of the railway, suburban development rapidly took place which led to the area becoming immensely populated. The first public school opened in 1908 and the first post office arrived in April 1900. At present time the area is a mixture of suburban residential, retail and light industrial developments.
The main shopping centre is situated along Beamish Street, it features supermarkets, many boutique shops, eateries a library and a discount department store. For culture and sports enthusiasts there is an abundance of options in the area. There are also plenty of places of worship as well as many sites that are listed on Australia’s National Heritage List.
