Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and was founded by Captain James Stirling to be the administrative centre of the Swan River Colony. The developed areas sit mainly on the Swan Coastal Plain, which sits between the Indian Ocean and the Darling Mountain Ranges or the General Darling Range.
The city centre including the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre at King’s Park is located along the Swan River. And a lot of other notable buildings are in the city centre too! Such as the Parliament of Western Australia, the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Government House where the Governor of Western Australia stays. The University of West Perth, the Perth Zoo, King’s Park and Botanic Gardens, the Belmont and Ascot Racecourses as well as the Maylands Peninsula Golf Course and the Royal Perth Golf Club are also situated along the river.
