The City of Boroondara is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne. The municipality was formed in June 1994 from the merger of 3 cities – Kew, Camberwell and Hawthorn. Before the Europeans started settling herem the area was inhabited by the Wurundjeri aboriginals of the Kulin nation. Robert Hoddle named the area the “Parish of Boroondara” in 1837 after a word from the Woiwurrung language that meant “where the ground is thickly shaded”.
