Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria in southeast Australia – New South Wales. It is a city built around and by Port Philip and on the Yarra River. Its territory spans from the Yarra Ranges in the East to Bacchus Marsh and Lerderderg State Park in the West. The city receives its name in honour of the then British Prime Minister – William Lamb, the 2nd Viscount Melbourne.
The city is serviced by the Melbourne Airport or the Tullamarine Airport and is quite the hub for trade and commerce due to the Port of Melbourne situated here and with a regional train and coach terminal at Southern Cross Station amd metropolitan terminal at Flinders Street.
Melbourne Central is also known to for its cultural activity – 2 popular dance styles, the Melbourne Shuffle and New Vogue originated from this area. There are many of Australia’s most famous institutions for performing arts located here as well including and not limited to Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne Museum, Melbourne Zoo, the National Gallery of Victoria and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building.
