Dee Why is the administrative centre for the Warringah Council in the Northern Beaches region in New South Wales. Its name’s origins is still yet undiscovered although several theories have been developed as to how James Meehan came to name it “DY Beachâ€. Dee Why is used to name the highlands here also known as Narraweena and also Dee Why West which is now know as Cromer.
The beaches here are worthy of mention especially the Dee Why Beach itself. The Bicentennial Coastal Walkway leads from Queenscliff to Palm Beach and follows through to North Curl Curl Beach and the cliffs of Dee Why Head. Other natural areas here worth visiting include the Stony Range Regional Botanic Garden and the Dee Why Lagoon.
In addition, there are a great number of religious buildings here especially churches. The oldest of which is the Cecil Gribble Congregation, of the Uniting Church. Others include St John’s Anglican Church, St Kevin’s Catholic Church, Dee Why Baptist Church and St David’s Uniting Church.
